These tips and tricks are for any and every one. Whether you have no idea what you’re doing or maybe you have your decorating style down but want a few new ideas, these tips are exactly what you need to make it look like you paid someone to decorate your home.
Adding some color, warmth, texture, and life to your home are the main ideas behind these simple home decorating tips, let’s check them out!
1. Use area rugs to add color and texture.
Area rugs come in all kinds of different colors, patterns, and materials making them a great way to add some color and texture to your home. You can also get them in many different shapes and sizes to best fit your space.
2. Add flowers for color and freshness.
Fresh or faux, adding some flowers is a great way to add some pops of color and some freshness to your home. It really makes it feel like a breath of fresh air. You can experiment with placing them in different vessels like bowls, pitchers, serving ware, ceramics, or go with a traditional glass vase.
3. Create a gallery wall the easy way.
I love the statement a gallery wall can make. But they can be challenging to get just right. To get one the easy way, just purchase several of the same frames to put your photos or artwork in and you will have an instant gallery wall. It looks clean and still packs a punch!
4. Use candles to add aroma and color.
I don’t know about you, but I love having a candle burning throughout the day. The scent always boosts my mood and there is something so relaxing about watching the flame dance around. These can be a great way to add a little color to your space as well. They are great to add to a vignette to create beautiful displays throughout your home.
5. Use different material accents for texture and interest.
Try using a variety of materials when picking your decor accents. Wood, glass, metal, ceramic, cement, wicker, and paper are some of my favorites. This makes your displays much more interesting and can add lots of new textures to a space.
You can also get all different sizes of things so when you are decorating shelves or creating a vignette, you have lots of variety in both material and size.
6. Use one or two large pieces to make a big statement.
Using a large mirror, a set of cool pieces of art, framed sheet music, an old map, an antique window, or a sign or set of signs are just a few ideas to use a large piece to make a big statement. Often times these pieces can just stand on their own without needing much more decor around it making it one of the most simple home decorating tips. I love my large antique window in my front room, take a peek at my spring decorating post to check it out.
7. Use Baskets for storage and to add warmth and texture.
I love the versatility of baskets. They are great as storage because they add some warmth and great texture while also being useful. I love the idea of using them as a planter for an indoor tree!
You can find a shallow one to use as a tray on an entry way table, a coffee table, any table or piece of furniture really. You can find a large one to hold extra pillows or blankets. There are really so many ways you can use baskets.
I have them in several different spots in my home and nearly all of them hide the many toys we have that would otherwise clutter our home. It is such an easy way to decorate and keep organized.
8. Mix vintage or antique pieces with modern ones.
This is one of my favorite tips. I love going to antique markets and finding vintage gems while thrifting. Mixing these finds in with my more modern decor from this era is a cool way to add style to my home. I love how the old and the new pieces compliment each other.
My favorites are old wood pieces and pottery mixed with modern vases, dishware, cook books and coffee table books, and other accents. I also love using old books to decorate with. They are a great way to add some height and character to my displays.
9. Add some indoor plants to bring some life into your home.

Ok in all honesty, this one is hard for me. I do not keep plants alive very well. But I am making it a part of my life goals to start being better about it! I love the look of real greenery throughout a home so I really want to start adding some to my own. Starting with a big indoor tree. It’s on my list.
In terms of decorating, this one is absolutely as simple as adding some indoor plants in some cool planters where ever you would like. It adds not only some color with the varying shades of green, but texture both from the plants themselves as well at whatever you chose to plant them in. If you happen to be the opposite of a green thumb like yours truly, try a faux option! No shame in that game!
10. Walls don't have to be only for pictures.
Walls can sometimes be hard to decorate, especially when they’re large walls. It’s a lot of space to try to fill. But you don’t necessarily have to print your entire photo album and fill up the wall. There are lots of other great options you can mix in with your photo galleries.
Shelves are a great thing to add. You can use them as open shelf storage in your kitchen or simply as more of a display for decor pieces you love.
Some form of coat hooks is another great way to smartly use that wall space while still maintaining style.
Other options include hanging vases, clocks, baskets, and signs. Many options to add something other than just photos to your walls.
Those are my simple home decorating tips to have you decorating like a pro in no time. Add tons of style to your home without having to give it much thought. What other tips do you have to share? Let me know down in the comments and I will see you next time. 😊
