Bored With Your Closet? | 6 Ways to Get Out of A Fashion Rut
Hey Guys!
I hate that “I don’t have anything to wear” feeling. I know I am not alone in this either. I always end up going with one of a select few go to pieces and leave tons of unworn things hanging in my closet. I could spend a solid 20 minutes just staring at my closet hoping an outfit will magically hop off the rack and onto my body. Why does this happen?! How do I snap out of it?! Well I have come up with some tips that have really helped me overcome my fashion ruts. So if you’re bored with your closet and could use some help, here are 6 ways to get out of a fashion rut.
1. Clean Out Your Wardrobe
Go through and clean out anything you know you won’t wear. A cluttered closet can be overwhelming when trying to figure out outfits. Too many choices makes it seem like a ton more work because you have so much to sift through. Many times there are tons of pieces we know we truly won’t wear and I can’t stress enough the importance of getting rid of said items. You also tend to forget about really great things you have because they get lost among the land of the never worn. See my article here on some great ways to do so.
2. Put Unexpected Items Together
Pair something you might think is dressy like a satin blazer with a casual outfit such as a band tee and distressed denim. You could also cuff the jeans and the blazer to really sell the look.
3. Rework Your Go To Outfits
If you have a handful of the same outfits you always reach for, try switching out one piece from each of those outfits for a fresh take. For example, if you wear the same types of shirts with jeans all the time, try switching out the top for something new. See how I switch the black turtleneck for a fun but still casual top?
4. Make Different Looks Out of 1 Piece
Take one piece and make 3 different outfits with it, you can even snap a picture to have for the future when you get one of those “don’t have anything to wear!” moments. Example: your favorite blouse. 1) paired with jeans and booties. 2) Tucked into a pencil skirt paired with heels. 3) Paired with some printed joggers or trousers with heels or wedges.
5. Layer Up
Try adding a layering piece. If you have the same few tops you always reach for, try adding a jacket that you haven’t tried with it before! Same goes with a casual sun dress, try layering a jacket on top and you might find yourself reaching for it more often.
6. Wear Those Prints!
Don’t be afraid of wearing those prints you bought but have hidden away. If you balance the pattern with more simple items it won’t seem quite as extreme. See how I paired those fun patterned pants with a denim top and some cute wedges? Prints are so wearable, don’t hide them away!
So there you have 6 ways to get out of a fashion rut. I hope I gave you some great tools and ideas to help you get more wear out of the pieces in your wardrobe. If you have any other great tips be sure to leave them in the comments below!
