Maybelline Master Contour Stick Review
Hey Guys!
I have been trying to find a great cream contour product that wasn’t super expensive and was compact to make it easy to travel with. I knew I didn’t want a contour pallet because I already have a powder one which I love. I thought about trying foundation sticks and using a couple shades darker and lighter than my skin. Then I came across this Master Contour Duo Stick from Maybelline and thought it was interesting. To get my full review of this product, just keep reading!
Packaging
The product comes in a black tube which is a twist up for easy access to the product. It is compact in size making it ideal for traveling but still has quite a bit of product. The tube seems sturdy and the cap stays put which is nice. The black packing is sleek and does not feel cheap.
Product
Before I get into how the product performed for me, I will go over its uses and claims. This duo stick is meant to highlight and contour the face. You are supposed to use the darker shade on the low points of your face or areas you want to push back such as along the hairline, the hallows of your cheeks, and your jawline. The lighter shade is supposed to be used on the high points of the face or areas you want to bring forward such as the center of the forehead, tops of the cheekbones, and down the center of your nose. This product comes in 3 different shades. It claims to create the illusion of structure and lift and that its creamy matte formula blends easily.
Review
This product was a bit of a miss for me. It was a cool theory but realistically, you can’t have a highlight and contour on one stick. It was hard not to mix the two as you were applying it. I imagine the more you use it and it wears down, the harder it will be to keep them from bleeding together during application. I also thought it felt very greasy and while that did help it blend nicely, it didn’t have a matte finish. That is something I look for in a contour product. I also found the highlight blended out into almost nothing so that was unfavorable. The color selection is very small so I got lucky that the shade I chose worked well for me so that was a plus.
It did live up to its claims in the sense that the contour did well adding structure to the face and that it blended nicely. However, since the highlight virtually disappeared it did not provide the lift I wanted and it was not very matte in my opinion.
Overall, I will not be purchasing this again and I don’t recommend it either unfortunately. I think I will try the foundation stick route next so keep an eye out for that post in the future. Thanks for reading and I hope you found this helpful.

I’ve always respected the art of make up and this whole contouring thing seems to be not only blowing up but becoming more accessible to everyday folks not just models anymore. This product sounds great!
It is definitely super popular and you are right that it is absolutely more accessible to the general public. Would you believe that contouring is actually a makeup skill derived from drag makeup?? Obviously a much lesser version in everyday use but yep the concept originated in drag makeup, pretty cool!
